How a Referral Launched This Farm Bureau Agent's Story

August 06, 2026

Logan Bahr was interested in a sales associate position with Farm Bureau, but once he learned more about the company, he decided to become an agent. He shares what the licensing and learning process has been like, how he’s building his business and what’s most meaningful to him.

How Did You Get Your Start with Farm Bureau?

I connected with Scott Evans, an agent in Winona, Minnesota, on LinkedIn. We sat down together and talked about the industry and his experience, and how I was considering coming on as a sales associate. After that conversation, I realized I wanted to do something more and become an agent. He referred me to my district manager, and I began the process of getting licensed and going through the Developing Agent Program. Now I work as an agent alongside Scott and another agent, Steve.

Why Did Farm Bureau Stand Out to You?

Farm Bureau is very reputable with the service it’s agents provide its client/members. From day one, Farm Bureau stresses that service is the number one thing that sets us apart and we do many things that help us deliver that service. We review policies once a year, we build relationships and we meet in person, getting the chance to spend time with our client/members’ families and answer all their questions.

Farm Bureau’s culture is one where everyone is helping each other. I don’t feel competitive with the other agents. It’s a place where if we help our client/members, everyone feels like they win.

What Was the Onboarding Process Like?

My district manager got me started with licensing right away. I took the time to really study and do the practice quizzes, and the process went very smoothly. After I was licensed for property and casualty (P&C), health and life, I started the Developing Agent (DA) Program and began to build my client list.

Throughout the DA Program, I received a great deal of support from my district manager, the support team and my fellow agents, which made the experience both enjoyable and rewarding. I learned how to build quotes and then sent them to my district manager for feedback. I really appreciated the guidance when first starting out. My district manager came along with me on my first few meetings too. Having that resource to walk me through the onboarding process was amazing.

As I was going through the DA program, I made sure to take an hour or so each day to study for the securities industry essentials (SIE), Series 6 and Series 63 exams. You don’t have to have them completed before you become an agent, however, I did so I wouldn't have to worry about studying once I was a full-time agent and could focus on building my business.

How Have You Built Your Client Base?

Before becoming an agent, I was doing youth basketball training. When I started as an agent, I had no book of business, but I used my network and reached out to families tied to the high school in my area. I started asking for referrals and really focused on building relationships in my community. I found I really enjoy working with families, providing them with great service, and I touch base with them frequently to serve as a valuable resource to them.

What Do You Like Most About Working for Farm Bureau?

I truly enjoy having the opportunity to make a positive impact on individuals and their families. Knowing that I am the one to make sure they are protected where and when they need to be and find and fill gaps in their coverage is a good feeling. Sure, closing the sale is nice, but really seeing the difference I make for a family is what makes this work meaningful to me.

What’s a Time Where You Feel Like You Made a Difference for a Client/member?

One experience that stands out involved a young family who didn’t know much about insurance. They were with another company but were paying high premiums for relatively low limits and didn’t understand what any of their coverages meant.

We sat down and as we reviewed their policies, I took the time to explain how each coverage worked, what risks they faced and what the financial impact would be if they experienced a major loss. Not only were we able to improve their coverage and better protect their home, vehicles, assets and family, but we were also able to save them money.

What made that experience especially rewarding what seeing their confidence grow throughout the process. By the end of our conversation, they understood their protection and felt secure in the decisions they made for their family’s future. Knowing I was able to provide peace of mind and meaningful protection is what made it so impactful for me.

What Advice Would You Give to Somebody Who Was Considering Becoming an Agent?

Take advantage of the resources available to you. Connect with experienced agents, ask questions and don’t hesitate to reach out to the home office for guidance. One of the great things about Farm Bureau is that you’re surrounded by people who genuinely want to see you succeed and are willing to share their knowledge and experience.

No one is expected to have all the answers right away. The more you learn from those around you and build relationships, the more confident and successful you’ll become. Having that support network can make all the difference, especially during challenging days, and it’s often what helps you stay motivated and continue growing.

What Do You Like to Do Outside of Work?

I really enjoy golfing. It's a great opportunity to build relationships or to just take my mind off of things and clear my head. I also like to hike and go on walks to step away from work and take some personal time to recharge. I make sure I find time to hang out with family and keep those relationships strong. I also prioritize setting time aside to read scripture and focus on my faith. It keeps me grounded, my mindset positive and helps me remember what’s most important in life.

How Has Progress Been So Far?

I contracted on August 1, 2025, and it's going really well. I love it. I'm producing a lot on the property and casualty insurance side and I’m starting to get more into life insurance. My first year I won the P&C Rookie of the Year for Minnesota.

Now, I’m looking at the bigger picture and asking myself, “If I do this on an everyday basis, how is that going to affect next week, next month, next year?” I have that attitude every single day when I get into the office. I’m excited to keep growing and building on what I’ve done and focus on what I can do tomorrow.
