Meet Joseph Ishimwe, a Farm Bureau insurance agent based out of Minnesota. When we had a chat with Joseph, he shared how he is fulfilling his passion to help others as an insurance agent and how his past shaped him into a strong and caring individual. Joseph attributes his strong and helpful personality to the experiences he had as a child in Africa. ”My life experiences have made me the person I am today; they made me wiser and stronger,” Joseph explains. Born in Africa and after spending years as a refugee, his family waited for the opportunity to leave and build a better life. Finally, after years in refugee camps, they came to the United States in 2009. Joseph and his family were happy to start their new adventure in Fargo, North Dakota.
Farm Bureau insurance agents come from all walks of life, which is what allows them to bring personal, unique perspectives to their relationships with clients. These experiences gave Joseph a better future and motivate him to support others in protecting their livelihoods through insurance. Today, as a Farm Bureau agent, Joseph’s calling is to help people in his community. Joseph always enjoys discussing the best options for his client/members and setting them up for success by choosing the plan that works best for their current situation.
Joseph explains that being an insurance agent is also a great fit because he can build a business that reflects his own values. “I work for me, and I can write my own story,” he says. “If you do a good job for your clients, you’ll get business. They’ll bring you business.”
What Drives Joseph to Be An Insurance Agent?
Although Farm Bureau offers many incentives for positive performance, the best insurance agents aren’t in this business for the money, but because they want to help their communities. This is what keeps Joseph motivated to work in the insurance business, and is the key to his success.
“I don’t really focus on the money,” explains Joseph. “That’s not what gets me up in the morning. If you’re in it for the money, you’re in it for the wrong reasons. I want to be there to educate my client/members. Protecting their livelihoods and their futures every single day, that’s what you’re supposed to do as a human being. You have to take care of your fellow human beings.”
Passion is the key to success as an insurance agent. When you love what you do for a living, your community will notice and look to you when they need help. Having a positive attitude and always being willing to offer a helping hand are just a couple of the traits that make agents successful.
