Why did you become a Farm Bureau agent?
I became a Farm Bureau agent after doing some service work for agents. I’ve always liked sales, and when I realized I enjoyed helping families protect what matters most to them, it was a perfect career opportunity to take.
What do you enjoy most about your day?
Each day I look forward to being in the office and out in the community meeting my client/members. My schedule is always changing and no two days are identical. Running your own business keeps you on your toes because every client/member has a different story to tell. I love hearing their stories and figuring out how I can help.
What’s been a pleasant surprise to you about being an agent?
A pleasant surprise thus far for me is really understanding the impact that we have as agents on our client/members’ futures. There isn’t anything better than receiving a hug or being told ‘thank you’ from a client/member when they need you most. At the same time, I didn’t realize the profound impact my client/members would have on me either.
If there’s one word of advice/tip you could give your fellow agents about work, what would it be?
My advice to other agents would be to work hard. Look within yourself and find out why you’re here and don’t lose focus. Also, be sure to utilize your colleagues and the awesome opportunity to have in front of you.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with my daughter’s school and activities. We like to do anything we can outside since we have trails right outside our backdoor. We like to go “treasure hunting” or anything that involves the water.
How do you keep yourself motivated each day?
I’ve only recently became a career agent, but I’ve quickly realized that this is much bigger than any sales quote or sales technique. This is about protecting people’s lives not just today, but for tomorrow, too.
What advice do you have for someone looking to become a Farm Bureau agent?
If you’re looking to start a new career, becoming a Farm Bureau agent might be the right fit for you. This is the career opportunity there is in this industry. If you work hard and stay focused, you’ll love the results.
